About the workplace

Wanås Konst is an international sculpture park and a center for art and learning run by the non-profit foundation Wanås Utställningar. Here, international contemporary art with a focus on sculpture and installation is created, presented, and communicated. Every year, international artists are invited to create art in the park. There are currently 70 permanent artworks in the collection – produced for Wanås Konst. The work of mediation, education, and accessibility is strong and growing. Managing Director and Artistic Leader for Wanås Konst

We are looking for a managing director and artistic leader for Wanås Konst who, with great freedom, will continue to develop Wanås with a focus on site-specific international contemporary art based on vision, mission, and core values.

Mission: Wanås Konst produces and communicates art that challenges and changes perceptions of society.

Core values: Excellence and accessibility.

Wanås Konst has about 15 permanent employees in the following positions: management, curator and project coordinator, responsible art educator, communications manager, entrance and shop manager, café manager, assistant, accountant, and janitor. The managing director reports to the board.

As a managing director, you will develop and implement:

• The artistic program, with new productions and exhibitions, the collection, and public engagement with education
• Visitor destination work with marketing, communication, and service
• Administration including finance, organization, premises, and work environment

The managing director has full budget and personnel responsibility and directs, leads, and develops the operations in close collaboration with colleagues, partners, and funders. Wanås Konst's activities are conducted on private land, and it is important to collaborate with other activities on site. Active monitoring of the external environment and representing Wanås Konst in various contexts are also central parts of the job.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership skills and experience in managing teams
• Experience in budget and operational planning
• Current experience in working with art exhibitions at an international level
• A broad national and international network within the contemporary art field
• Experience with grant applications and/or fundraising and other financing
• Swedish or Scandinavian languages as well as English, spoken and written
• Experience with public sector contacts (meritorious)
• Experience in strategic business development (meritorious)

As a person, you are a listening and communicative leader with a strong artistic network. You need to be able to act independently, but at the same time, you are collaborative-oriented and have a good ability to build relationships.

We are looking for someone who is attracted to developing challenging and accessible art in the unique environment that Wanås offers and for a broad audience, together with others and from a public focus. We would prefer the managing director to live in the local area, and assistance with housing is available.
